sewing: atelier brunette cheyenne tunic imagine gnats

This post is written by Heidi of Handmade Frenzy.

Hi friends!! Im bursting with excitement to share my gorgeous new atelier brunette cheyenne tunic with you.

The pattern I chose is the Cheyenne Tunic, by Hey June Handmade. If you know the pattern (which Im sure you do!), you can tell mine has a twist! Ill share more about that at the end.

I wanted to talk about this absolutely gorgeous fabric first!! The fabric I used is posie blue viscose dobby. I would describe it as similar to cotton lawn, but with a voile weight. Its very lightweight and is slightly sheer when held up to the light.

It is, however, opaque enough to wear as a loose fitting shirt without any worries of seeing through it.

I have/had a dirty little secret up until this point. Until I decided on this project, I had never sewn a legit button up shirt, with a collar stand, sleeve placket, and cuffs.

If you know me at all, this mig...

Sweet Treats Quilt Block Simple Simon and Company

This time of the year I start getting sentimental for holidays of my youth.  One special Christmas we spent in California when I was just tiny with lots of cousins and distant relatives. And one thing I remember about that Christmas was eating loads and loads of salt water taffy.

So, today I am sharing one of my newest quilt blocks I am naming sweet treats because it reminds me of that Christmas of eating handfuls and handfuls of neapolitan salt water taffy.it was so good. I made this quilt block out of some white fabric and then a piece of Shine Bright collection that looks like mint chocolate chip that I love as wellbut you could use any fabric scraps you have on hand. Lets get started!

Cut the following measurements out of fabrics:

* Two 2.5 by 6.5 white rectangles

Color Flux Scarf Purl Soho

Non-metaphorically speaking, gray days are ahead. An absence of color is the mood and beauty of winter, and so when a bright pink or a tomato red pokes its head out of the grayness, it sings an especially boisterous song. And wed say our Color Flux Scarf is really belting it out!

Color Flux Scarf | Purl Soho

In a medley taken from the pink-red-purple corner of the color wheel, our Color Flux Scarf says no to gray (metaphorically and non-metaphorically speaking). Youll need just five skeins of our incredibly soft Gentle Giant merino wool and can get all of them together with our Color Flux Scarf Bundle. And if loud singing isnt your thing, its also available in a say-yes-to-gray palette.

Color Flux Scarf | Purl Soho

For this super quick knit, you cast on the long way and work only a couple of seed-stitch rows of each color, with four rows in between of flux where you transition from the old color to the new one Fun!

Peplum in Atelier Brunette imagine gnats

This post is written by Holli of Hello Holli.

Hello Friends!

Ive realized I have a bit of a hole in my wardrobe. I have quite a few dresses I wear to church, and lots of casual clothes for running around town with my kids, but not a lot of things I can wear to dress up jeans for a date night or social gathering. When I saw this gorgeous Atelier Brunette fabric, Moonstone in Pink and the matching bias tape, I knew it would make a lovely flowy top I could pair with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans.

I tend to wear solids, but every so often a print catches my eye that I cant pass up. This is one of them! The fabric has such gorgeous drape and it is the perfect blush color.

I can see myself wearing it this winter with a cropped cardigan and jeans, and in summer with a pencil skirt. That said, I wouldnt normally wear this in a snowstorm but I did indeed brave a literal snowstorm to take these photos! Its rare for us to get snow in December here, but this weekend we did!

The pattern: Beatrix Top by Made by Rae.

This top is a heavily modified Beatrix Top. The Beatrix usually buttons up the back, but I used the directions Rae gives for making a muslin to cut the back on the fold, essentially turning it into a woven tee with darts. I used this method to make a woven tee here also.

I love to use this pattern as a base for a woven top with darts. It is easy to get a good fit because the Beatrix has several cup size options, so if youre afraid of sewing wovens because of the fitting involved I suggest trying Beatrix as a pattern to get your woven-fitting feet wet with. Rae gives great directions to guide you through!

Proudly presenting: A Craftivists Manifesto in four languages so far Craftivist Collective

I sometimes think Craftivism is like the word Punk. Under that umbrella term you have The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Blondie and so many other bands that sound nothing like each other but are all seen as part of the Punk scene. Similarly Craftivism (the term was coined by Betsy Greer in 2001) can be used to describe so many different activities and creations.

Here at the Craftivist Collective we focus on campaigning and activism where we question and challenge the root causes of poverty and suffering and look for long term solutions to those problems. The solutions might be a change in law, a shift in behaviour or a change in attitude. Our heroes are activists like Ghandi, Martin Luther King and the Suffragettes who all brilliantly changed our world for the long term. So the Craftivist Collective is not about fundraising, donating or simply awareness-raising. We use craft (mostly hand-embroidery and paper craft) as a powerful tool to create slow, quiet, thoughtful and compassionate activism as a catalyst for long term positive change in our world and in ourselves. We believe craft, if done wisely, can be a powerful, change-making instrument to add to the toolbox of activism.

We believe:

If we want our world to be more beautiful, kind & just, then our activism should be beautiful, kind & just

We are aware that good intentions are only the start and that we can benefit from guidelines so that we dont harm others. When we are working for example alongside vulnerable people to help them out of poverty and suffering, we believe we have to be even more emotionally intelligent and sensitive than if we were online pharmacy discount working in another area that doesnt focus on justice issues. All of our craftivism actions should be rooted in our values, crafted with skill, sensitivity and wisdom.

As part of my recent exhibition in Stockholm,Sweden I created this manifesto (pictured) as the largest piece in the exhibition room. It took 6 months to write, rewrite and reflect on before I thought it was good enough! For the Craftivist Collective and for myself, activism is the priority and craft is our tool where appropriate, never our taskmaster.

sewing: burgundy plaid flannel archer shirt imagine gnats

This post is written by Cristy of Love You Sew.

As the weather gets colder and colder here in the midwest, Im gravitating to more and more of my comfy clothes. While I love a good hoodie and joggers, nothing is better than a plaid flannel archer shirt with jeans or leggings. A plaid print, just like this Burgundy shirting adds enough style and personality while the ease of a button-up shirt gives you room to move and breathe.

Im sure you are all like me when you come across some flannel fabric and ask, Is this really going to be soft? Well, I can confidently answer, Yes!!!. This plaid flannel in burgundy feels great and softened even more after washing. At 4.8 oz it is just a little heavier than most designer quilt cottons and is comparable to most flannel shirts you find in RTW.

There is a lightly brushed nap on one side, so be mindful as you cut your patterns. As with any fabric with a directional print, you might need a little extra for pattern matching. Im glad I ordered a bit more! If you like this flannel, there are several other designs you can find here.

The Archer Button-Up by Grainline Studios is a very popular woven shirt pattern. It is offered in both digital and paper formats depending on your preference. I decided to jump on the bandwagon to look for a good TNT that will take me into the next several years.

This silhouette is...

Advent ikat bag

Happy Advent, all!

Somehow, it's December again. This year, it felt like Minnesota skipped over fall and wormholed from summer right into winter. The weather was very weird this year, wasn't it? Hardly any 70-degree transition to speak of; it was 80s and 90s one day and then torrential rain and then 40s, and then snow. All before Halloween, even.

So each year, November goes by in a blink and suddenly it's Christmas. I often have grand plans for  Advent. Not just because it's peak crafting (and baking) season with the kids, but because it's a whole month of anticipation: the grandeur of Christmas feasts with family, the thrill of seeing the faces of friends as they open gifts we've made (or saved to buy), the joy of delivering cookies to neighbors to say - among other things - "we're so glad you live next door (or around the corner, or across the street)."

And every year, I swear Advent sneaks up on me.

Easy to Make Festive Faux Fur Collar So You Can Attend Your Holiday Parties in Style The Renegade Seamstress

faux-fur-collar-after-title

Its no secret that I love parties!

The bigger, the better. The more the merrier. So many reasons for a party, so little time. I truly am a walking party cliche.

To me, one of the best things about the holiday parties (besides the cranberry salsa) is the opportunity to dress up. A faux fur collar is such a festive holiday accessory and they are super easy to make.
